a shameless plug for Richard S. Beal

with one comment

TGCEaIDNoelle’s grandfather (retired entomologist, Baptist Sunday School teacher, and very congenial fellow) has recently published The Grand Canyon, Evolution, and Intelligent Design (available on Amazon).

He’s written a brief synopsis of the book here, at his new blog (Biblical Evolution).

Congratulations, Granddad!

Nouwen on Christian leadership

without comments

…I am deeply convinced that the Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self.

- Henri J.M. Nouwen, In the Name of Jesus (ch. 1)

Moses and Christ

without comments

Moses, through Aaron, turned water into blood. Christ, through several servants, turned water into wine.

Not that I mean to overthrow the law.

PS: Does Christ, through his servants the priests, turn wine back into blood?

Hello, Goodbye

without comments

I stopped my daily readings of many blogs (made much simpler by Google Reader) about five days ago, when we left Lexington for Memphis. As a result I have only just learned that the good German doktor has bidden us farewell.

Trinity and anti-Trinity

with 2 comments

For my Bible as Literature course I’m reading Revelation as translated for the often-enlightening New Jerusalem Bible. Here’s the footnote for 13:15:

The second beast mimics the Spirit who works miracles in the Church to encourage faith in Christ. Similarly, the first beast had imitated the risen Messiah, v.3. The Dragon, the first beast and the second beast form a caricature of the Trinity.

“Beer and Carols”

Here’s an event to get excited about. Does anyone in the States (or the Lexington, KY area) do something like this?
